In January, International Alert gathered its team of regional experts and editors to discuss the Unheard Voices media project. Topics discussed included locating and mentoring new local journalists, finding new voices and views on the conflict, and using different media to increase the visibility of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The meeting included a visit to the BBC’s offices at New Broadcasting House, where they met with editors from the BBC World Service and discussed the challenges facing the region, and how new media can be used to reach wider audience and encourage open dialogue.

The meeting was fruitful, and Alert looks forward to the group’s continued work on giving a voice to those affected by the conflict and shed light on what they face living in a state of “neither war nor peace”.
